Chicago’s ‘Flavor Fanatic’ Sweetens Up Netflix
Justice of the Pies owner Maya-Camille Broussard stars in new ‘Bake Squad’ series.
I had the pleasure of chatting with Chicago’s own Maya-Camille Broussard ahead of Netflix’s hotly anticipated “Bake Squad” series for Eater Chicago. She appeared a little bit nervous, but she was more excited that viewers would get to see her and her co-stars go beyond their usual pastry skills.
As owner of the award-winning Justice of the Pies bakery, Broussard is best known for whipping up sweet treats with unusual flavors, thus, she’s nicknamed the “Flavor Fanatic” on the show. The series is hosted and created by Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi, and also stars dessert experts Ashley Holt (Sugar Monster Sweets), Gonzo Jimenez (Miette et Chocolat), and Christophe Rull.
Thus far, I’ve watched two episodes and I love the energy and spirit behind the concept. Though it’s a competition, with the chefs vying to create signature pastries for someone’s special occasion, there’s a lot of teamwork involved. Check it out when you can, and in the meantime, watch these two videos below of Broussard chatting with me about her love for Chicago’s restaurant scene and more.
“Bake Squad” is now available on Netflix.
Looking forward to this new series!
