Chicago Chefs Unite for Ethiopia, Sudan
Following a successful event raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support relief in Ukraine, local toques gather again to raise money to help women, children in Africa.
It’s been a while since we’ve last communicated, and I always appreciate your support. I’ve taken on a new full-time job with Informa Markets, where I am the new content director for Food & Beverage Insider. Here, I won’t be covering the restaurant industry. Instead, the focus is on food and beverage ingredients that are better for us all.
Taking this job also allows me to spotlight worthwhile efforts, such as an event coming up later this month in Chicago. The Windy City’s culinary community is uniting again to raise money to help others in dire need in Ethiopia and the Sudan. Chicago Chefs Cook for Tigray takes place 6-9pm Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture.
There’s a humanitarian crisis going on in Tigray, Ethiopia and parts of the Sudan, and women and children there could really use a helping hand. It’s organized by Ethiopian native Tigist Reda (chef/owner of Demera Ethiopian Restaurant) as well as chefs Sarah Stegner, Tony Priolo, and others.
They’re whipping up signature bites with the likes of chefs/restaurateurs Erick Williams (Virtue), Beverly Kim & Johnny Clark (Parachute), Devon Quinn (Eden), Joseph Flamm (Rosemary), Darnell Reed (Luella's Southern Kitchen), Giuseppe Tentori (GT Prime), Jenner Tomaska (Esme), and others.
The event will fund disaster relief projects headed by Health Professionals Network for Tigray. Ticket and vendor sales will go towards purchasing food aid, life-saving emergency supplies, medication, medical supplies, etc.
The last time these chefs united for a good cause, they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for relief in Ukraine. It will be phenomenal if they can do it again.
Here’s where you can buy a ticket or donate.
