A Unique, Family-Friendly Dining Experience
D.C. Crenshaw's Little Diners' Crew thrives during pandemic, offering parents and their children opportunities to explore global fare in chef-driven establishments.
Little Diner’s Crew is not your average foodie-focused dining club. It’s designed for families, and children ages four to 12, but it’s more than just about teaching kids how to eat well.
It boasts a social justice mission, and D.C. Crenshaw, who founded the group more than four years ago with his wife, Alayna, is very conscientious about that so as to teach his young sons to treat people from all walks of life with respect and dignity.
Crenshaw joined me recently on the LIVE! Culinary Series, where we discussed the Chicago-based Little Diner’s Crew and how it’s grown over these past four years. He talks about how these young food enthusiasts are introduced to global fare by visiting diverse restaurants across the city, plus learning the history about different cultures.
Dining etiquette is always at top of mind at these outings, and the young, and sometimes restless, participants know not to act up. You won’t find any kids running around restaurants screaming and acting a fool during his events.
What’s also quite admirable about these events is that the children are introduced to each restaurant’s chef, who walks them through the multiple-course, planned menu for the group. You won’t find the usual suspects found on kids’ menus such as chicken fingers, mac and cheese, or burgers.
The kids are here to expand their culinary palates, and thus far, it’s working. See the entire interview with Crenshaw right here.
Fantastic interview! What a great learning experience for these children.
