A Juneteenth to Remember
We discuss celebrating the occasion as a first-ever federal holiday, how it relates to Black foodways, plus more.
With Juneteenth now a federally observed holiday, there’s so much to think about and consider. Namely, how do we move forward in celebrating it with respect and dignity?
We discuss this momentous occasion and how it relates to culinary culture during an episode of the LIVE! Culinary Series, which features Lamar Moore, newly installed executive chef at Eleven Eleven in Chicago’s West Loop, and highly lauded mixologist Lynn House.
Our conversation was invigorating and insightful, sharing ideas on how Black-owned culinary ventures can prosper. They both demonstrated their crafts, with House whipping up a couple of Juneteenth-inspired cocktails and Moore showing off his grilled salmon dish paired with white corn succotash. It was a treat indeed!
