28 Days of Soul Food: Day 4
Down To Earth Wine Concepts owner Brian Duncan discusses the rich history of Black wine producers in America, including the first-ever Black family in Napa Valley.
When it comes to wine education, Brian Duncan is the godfather. He’s a connector and power broker in the wine world, and he sat down to talk to me about his adventures during this latest episode of the LIVE! Culinary Series.
While his personal stories are fascinating about how he, as a Black man, has navigated the wine industry for more than 30 years, he also discussed his favorite Black-owned wine producers. Brown Estate Winery is the first and only Black-owned winery in Napa Valley, and it’s been there since 1980. Duncan also talks about how he personally curates the wine program for Chicago’s Kimbark Beverage Shoppe, which boasts the largest selection of Black-owned wines in the country.
Listen in as he talks about his relationship with the family-owned Brown Estate Winery, the importance of supporting small producers, and his perfect wine pairing for his signature homemade sweet potato pie.
